50 ml (~1.75 oz) gin
25 ml (~1 oz) sweet vermouth

Notes

The original Martini was sweet, built with Old Tom gin and sweet red vermouth before tastes shifted toward the dry version in the early 1900s. Stir with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass, garnishing with a cherry. Close in spirit to the Gin and It, its even older ancestor.
