Created in 1959 by bartender Leroy Sharon at the Porpoise Room in Marineland, California, and reportedly dedicated to actress Joan Crawford. The drink became popular on the US East Coast through the late 1960s and was designated an IBA Contemporary Classic as an after-dinner drink.
