Notes

Created by Marcovaldo Dionysos at Smuggler's Cove in San Francisco around 2003, during his earlier tenure at the Clock Bar. The drink is remarkable for putting green Chartreuse — a 130-proof herbal liqueur made by Carthusian monks since 1737 — in the starring role rather than using it as a modifier. The swizzle technique (spinning a barspoon or traditional swizzle stick through crushed ice) tames the liqueur's intensity, while pineapple and falernum bridge its herbal complexity into something surprisingly tropical. Its addition to the IBA New Era Drinks list recognized it as one of the most inventive modern tiki-adjacent cocktails.
