Notes

Created by Dick Bradsell in 1984 at Fred's Club in London — his third IBA-listed cocktail alongside the Espresso Martini and the Russian Spring Punch. Bradsell said the drink was inspired by childhood memories of picking blackberries in the Isle of Wight, and he wanted to create a truly British cocktail. The crème de mûre is poured over the crushed ice last so it bleeds through the drink in a striking purple cascade. Despite its simplicity, it took years to gain recognition; Bradsell once remarked that people kept trying to "improve" it, but the recipe needed nothing more.
